 President -  Jeff LeBlanc
Ø Sent a letter to the Community Foundation announcing the transfer of our scholarship funds to the University of South Alabama.
Ø SurveyMonkey is up and running. Jeff will make an announcement at the meeting (05/14) concerning the release of a general survey to all members being sent the week of May 17 and will solicit participation from the members.
Ø Janet Parker and Bill Maroni from National SHRM will be here at the October to assist in building value for National SHRM membership.
Ø Plans for the After Hours Mixer are on hold due to the oil spill in the gulf. Best choice at this time is Felix’s because of price and location.

President Elect – Mary White
Ø May speaker is Emily S. Smith, Ph.D., LPC, Staff Counselor/EAP Coordinator Alabama Psychiatric Services, EAP Resources.
Ø Topic: Managing Stress from the HR Manager's Chair
Ø Cassie Callaway of Mobile Bay Keepers will be speaking at the July Breakfast.
Ø The August speaker is not yet set, but there are several potential speakers yet to be contacted.

VP Membership – Tom Woodford
Ø New professional members approved: Matt Powell, James Patrick, Cortina Smith, Sheila Campbell, Fenise Howard-Barrett, and Donna Jones.
Ø New associate members approved: Ester Johnson and Matt Sculley.
Ø The membership drive has provided at least 2 members with FREE lunch! Kay Watson has received 1 lunch and is due one more and Josh Brown has 2 free lunches.
Ø Suggested non-denominational prayer: Heavenly Father, we gather today intent on doing good work for all. Help us to represent fairly and well our profession and those who depend upon us. May our personal faiths give us strength to act honestly and well in all that we do. Bless this food we are about to receive so that it may nourish our bodies and strengthen us. Amen.

Core Leadership Areas -
 
Diversity – Teresa Taylor - Will be discussing the development of Diversity Plans with other chapter chairs.
 
Certification – Jeanine Wilson - Posted the date for the fall certification class on the web-site. This information will be included in the May newsletter and Jeanine will provide the dates at the May luncheon.
 
Workforce Readiness - Renee Sorensen  - Angel commented that she and Renee attended the first meeting of the Workforce Readiness Council that convened at Bishop State in April.
 
College Relations – Marjorie Icenogle - 9 students (3 teams) attended the HR games. Much appreciation was expressed by the teams for the financial support provided. Mobile SHRM paid $647.22 for the van rental and gas for the students to attend the games. National SHRM is discontinuing the games since students are will no longer be eligible to test for PHR/SPRH/GPHR at the end of this year.

Conference Chair  Kay Watson
Ø Angel shared that Kay is working on speakers this month. 
Ø The web-site has the exhibitor registration information posted.
Ø Jeff let everyone know he is trying to get Dr. Bronner of RSA to speak at the conference.
Ø Mary made mention of a raffle done at the MS state conference. For each $25 ticket you received and entry to win a $25 I-tunes card and an I-Pod shuffle. The drawing was held at the end of the conference.
Ø Jeff made mention of Birmingham always waiting until the end of the conference to give away all the door prizes.
Ø Jeff let everyone know that the 2-$500 cash prizes will not be given away this year.

SHRM Foundation – Carol Statter
Ø The Mobile Chapter is donating 2-nights + breakfast for 2 @ a lovely Robert Trent Jones facility in Birmingham (valued at $275) to the State Conference silent auction.
Ø Will be conducting a “split-the-pot” drawing at the next meeting. The drawing tickets will have an HR related question and all those who get the answer correct will be entered into the drawing.
