Hello Mobile SHRM Members,

Thank you for your support!  We cannot continue to offer membership value without YOU.

Please do not forget that we have a Diversity & Inclusion mini-workshop coming up on April 12th at beautiful, Spring Hill College!   See above for more details or check it out on our website www.mobileshrm.org.  Each one of us needs to reach out to our friends and colleagues and let them know that we have a great opportunity to obtain continuing education credit and gain the latest knowledge from the experts all while getting a full, hot breakfast and enjoying networking and camaraderie with our HR buds.  Sounds like a win-win situation to me.  Oh yes, did I mention that we get out of the OFFICE too! Yessssssss!

Last month I announced the Mobile SHRM Board of Directors decision to increase lunch prices by $5.00 beginning May 2019.  I explained that to my recollection we have not had an increase in lunch prices in the last 8 or 9 years.  The Board had previously been able to keep prices down by selling sponsorships to subsidize lunch costs, however, our potential sponsors have now told us that they would rather invest in our annual conference.  This was further emphasized by the conversation from the floor, during our meeting, that solidified this position from vendors/supporters and membership.  Therefore, the Board decided to cease actively attempting to sell sponsorships for monthly meetings and increase lunch prices to $20 for members and $25 for non-members to cover the lunch cost at Heron Lakes.  By doing so,  it is our hope that we will be able to better serve you and focus our efforts on selling the Conference value. We also need to remember that Conference registration opens up on April 1, 2019.  Please go to www.mobileshrm.org for further details.

Update
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) will officially open the 2018 EEO-1 survey on March 18, 2019. The deadline to submit EEO-1 data has been extended until May 31, 2019. The EEO-1 is an annual survey that requires all private employers with 100 or more employees and federal government contractors or first-tier subcontractors with 50 or more employees and a federal contract, sub­contract or purchase order amounting to $50,000 or more to file the EEO-1 report. The filing of the EEO-1 report, is required by federal law per Section 709(c), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; and §1602.7–§1602.14, Title 29, Chapter XIV of the Federal Code of Regulations.

Filers should refer to the EEO-1 website at (https://www.eeoc.gov/employers/eeo1survey/index.cfm) for general information about the 2018 EEO-1 collection.

The proposed federal overtime rule isn’t expected to take effect until January 2020. The Department of Labor (DOL) is seeking to raise the threshold to $679 a week ($35,308 a year) from $455 a week ($23,660 a year)—though nothing has been finalized yet.
