President's Desk

Now that summer is coming to a close, it’s time to start thinking about what is going on with MSHRM this fall.

First, I’d like to point out that online registration is now open for the annual conference – an event that’s scheduled for November 9 at the Mobile Convention Center. Visit the MSHRM website to register or to get information about participating as a vendor or sponsor.

If workforce development is a topic that’s near and dear to your heart, please consider volunteering to help with the Worlds of Opportunity (WOO) Career Expo. The chapter is one of the event’s sponsors, and details on how you can participate are included in this issue of the newsletter.

It’s also time to think about slating officers and directors for next year. If you’re interesting in becoming a part of the chapter’s Board for the 2012-2013 year, please get in touch with me or Kay Watson (next year’s president-elect!)

There are plenty of opportunities to benefit from your MSHRM membership in the coming months, starting with the chapter meeting on Friday. Don’t forget to RSVP!

Regards,

Tom Woodford, Chapter President

Diversity Management: Diversity Management 101

Diversity management is essential to your company’s success. Whether you’re new to it or aFaces seasoned professional, understanding the current best practices and trends in diversity management is critical.

What Is Diversity Management?
Diversity management is the method of implementing diversity-and-inclusion strategies—also referred to as D&I strategies—to maximize benefits of corporate diversity in the workplace. Using best practices in recruitment and retention, resource groups and mentoring, diversity management enhances talent development and workforce diversity through utilization of diversity metrics and diversity benchmarking.

Diversity Facts

Diversity facts provide summaries of diversity metrics, information and trends about traditionally underrepresented groups, including Blacks, Latinos, Asians, American Indians, women, people with disabilities, veterans, and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people. Diversity facts include education, income, buying power and historic timeline information.
