Now that summer is coming to a close, it’s time to start thinking about what is going on with MSHRM this fall.

First, I’d like to point out that online registration is now open for the annual conference – an event that’s scheduled for November 9 at the Mobile Convention Center. Visit the MSHRM website to register or to get information about participating as a vendor or sponsor. 

If workforce development is a topic that’s near and dear to your heart, please consider volunteering to help with the Worlds of Opportunity (WOO) Career Expo. The chapter is one of the event’s sponsors, and details on how you can participate are included in this issue of the newsletter.

It’s also time to think about slating officers and directors for next year. If you’re interesting in becoming a part of the chapter’s Board for the 2012-2013 year, please get in touch with me or Kay Watson (next year’s president-elect!)

There are plenty of opportunities to benefit from your MSHRM membership in the coming months, starting with the chapter meeting on Friday. Don’t forget to RSVP!

2012 Gulf Coast Mobile SHRM Conference

Registration is open for the 2012 Human Resource Conference!  The Conference is scheduled for Friday, November 9th, at the Mobile Convention Center from 8 am until 4:30 pm.  There will also be a Welcome Reception the night before at the Hampton Inn & Suites - Downtown Mobile. 

This year, we have Meagan Johnson as our keynote speaker.  Meagan is known as a Generational meganHumorist and puts a hilarious spin on how to attract, train, market, manage and retain people from every generation – and not strangle someone in the process!  You are guaranteed to laugh while acquiring tools you can use immediately to improve your multi-generational relationships with clients, customers and co-workers.

Mobile SHRM is excited to be supporting the 2012 South Alabama Workforce Development Council (SAWDC) Worlds of Opportunity (WOO) Career Expo.  The 2012 WOO Career Expo will take place September 26-27 at the Mobile Civic Center Arena.

career1More than10,000 eighth grade students, teachers, school administrators, parents, industry leaders and volunteers from eight counties will come together in Mobile, AL, for this exciting event. The purpose of the Expo is to create awareness about career options among students and educators. Equipped with this information, students will complete a career portfolio upon entering 9th grade that will serve as a roadmap for education courses.

We are asking that you consider signing up for one of the offered Volunteer Opportunities. classThe dates have been set for Mobile SHRM’s next exam training preparation course for the Human Resource Certification Institute’s PHR and SPHR certification exams. 

Classes will begin on January 28th, meeting on Monday evenings from 5:30 until 8:45 pm. 

The final class will be held on May 13th with no classes on February 11 (Mardi Gras), March 25 (Baldwin County Public Schools Spring Break) or April 22 (Mobile County Public Schools Spring Break).
