Mr. Obama, as you clearly requested
sir--- They have finally plugged that damn hole!
It is hard to explain, we did
not anticipate that after more than 100 days of worry
and wait a collective sigh of relief would feel this
good, just to get to this point. Hope springs eternal,
they say, thank goodness oil doesn’t! Let’s
enjoy this stage, but in all reality, we still have
a long way to go to restore our life to pre-disaster
conditions. We will be faced with problems that we
do not even know exist yet. We cannot let our guard
down, and must be diligent in holding those accountable
to fix what they promised. Are you listening BP??
The hardest work is just beginning in restoring jobs,
the economy and our way of life here on the Gulf
Coast, our own backyard. It will be only as good
as we work hard to make it!
We have some new exciting things happening at Mobile
SHRM that I want to tell you about that will add
even more VALUE TO YOUR MEMBERSHIP (VAM!!).
There is no such thing as a free lunch, which I
can definitely vouch for, but a reduction in the
price of lunch is still a great thing, right? We
have struggled hard and crunched the numbers, menus,
vendors and a couple cooks, I think.
Starting with this lunch meeting, the price has been
lowered to $15 for members and $17 for non-members.
Do not panic, fried chicken will still be served!
Breakfast meetings will be $10 and $12 respectively.
Please bring your guests and potential MSHRM members.
We have a great group. Let’s share the excitement
with them!
On Thursday night September
23rd, we are going to hold the first ever, but
certainly not the last, NETWORKING ON THE BAY at
Felix’s Fish Camp
on the causeway. It will be right after work, only
for our members and those of our sister chapter Baldwin
County SHRM. This is your chance to meet, greet and
chat with all those members that you see in our monthly
meetings, always try to, but have never had the time
to say hello to. Come enjoy great food, cold beverages,
good music and wonderful fellow SHRM members. No
sponsors, no speeches, no guests, no rush back to
work, just SHRM members doing what we do best….NETWORKING!
I promise you do not want to miss this special event!
Rapidly approaching is our
annual Gulf Coast Conference on November 5th at
the Mobile Convention Center, and we are definitely “kickin it up a notch” this
year. It will be bigger and better than last year.
We have added new speakers and hot topics that you
will want to hear and learn from. There will be a
record number of vendors and door prizes as well
as the SHRM Foundation Silent Auction and raffle.
Kay Watson, our Conference Chair, has even cooked
up some never seen before, special razzle dazzle
for you this year. Details to be announced soon,
watch your email and the MSHRM website for more information!
Do not miss the lunch meeting
this Friday! We asked for your honest input, you
spoke loudly, we listened wholeheartedly, and we
are taking action. If you want to see the members’ unedited
responses to our recent MSHRM Survey, please be
there when I cover the results with the chapter.
I sincerely look forward to seeing each of you this
Friday!!

Meeting Sponsorships!
Would you like to have an opportunity
to market your company’s products or services
to a captive audience of HR professionals? Sponsor
a Mobile Society for Human Resource Management chapter
meeting and you’ll have an exclusive opportunity
to do just that! For only $400, sponsors may have
an exhibit near the check-in table, place literature
on each table, and have an opportunity to speak briefly
about their companies during the meeting agenda.
What could be better than that? Limited opportunities
are available, as there can be only one sponsor for
each regular meeting.

MOBILE SHRM
WORKPLACE DIVERSITY AWARD
The Mobile Society for Human Resource
Management (MSHRM) invites you to participate in the
2010 Workplace Diversity Award. The Workplace Diversity
award will be presented at MSHRM’s annual Holiday
luncheon in December. Help us to acknowledge those
organizations and/or companies who foster an inclusive
work environment in which all employees are inspired
to contribute their best through their different perspectives,
backgrounds and life experiences.
The Workplace Diversity award will be presented to
recognize one company in our community who has set
an example as a leader and innovator in creating and/or
encouraging workplace diversity and inclusion. The
award will be based upon organizational achievements
and not individual achievements. This award is open
to all organizations within the local community. Membership
in MSHRM is not required to participate.
Deadline for all nominations
will be 5:00 pm on Friday, November 12, 2010.

Support
the Worlds of Opportunity Event
As the Work Force Readiness coordinator,
I (Renee Sorensen) would like as many Mobile SHRM members
as possible to join me in support of the World’s
of Opportunity event in September. The event will be
held September 29th and 30th at the Mobile fairgrounds
off Cody Road. The event hours are 7:30am to 4:30pm
each day.
Middle school students from the
five county regions surrounding Mobile will be coming
through the “Worlds” for
1 1/2 to 2 hour intervals. It is anticipated that over
6,000 students will attend. There will be eleven “Worlds” of
work which include: maritime, architecture, energy,
manufacturing, health care, aerospace, public safety,
communications and auto technology. There is a great
need for volunteers to make this event a success! Volunteers
can work 4 to 8 hour shifts depending upon their schedule.
Sharon Cureton is the volunteer coordinator
for the event. Her contact information is: curetons@aol.com , 251-625-4893. Or you may contact me at rsorensen@longshrs.com,
