2013-2014 Certification Update

Recertification News
For those of you who have passed that rigorous Certification exam and obtained your PHR/SPHR/GPHR Certification you know that the certification journey is not complete. To maintain your certification you have committed to obtaining 60 credited HRCI approved hours every 3 years. For the SPHR or GPHR 15 of those hours must be designated as strategic or international depending on your certification. This is the reason so many of us keep our eyes open for strategic management approved events such as conferences and webinars in order to get the biggest bang for our time and money.

There are many events and conferences available throughout the year. Our chapter puts on the Gulf Coast Conference each year in November (www.mobileshrm.org). Our State SHRM also has a conference every year, May 13 -14, 2014 with many of the pre-conference sessions designated as strategic management (al.shrm.org).

In addition, there are also seminars and meetings available throughout the year here in Mobile that are HRCI certified. For details, please check the calendar of events at www.mobileshrm.org. Other local chapters such as Harrison Hancock Human Resource Association gulfcoast.shrm.org, Baldwin County SHRM bcshrm.shrm.org or Greater Pensacola SHRM www.gpshrm.org also have various meetings and seminars .

However, something that you may not have realized is that SHRM now has books that are available for purchase that have been HRCI approved for credit. The way that this works is there is a test that is purchased to go with the book and if passed successfully it will be eligible to obtain HRCI credit. The list of books are available at www.shrm.org under publications SHRM books in the SHRMstore.

In addition, there are online courses available at www.shrm.org that offer HRCI credit available under the heading education and e-learning. These courses are available on demand for a fee. In order to obtain the HRCI credit after successful completion of the course you would also need to take and pass an exam successfully.

If you are looking for webinars, SHRM has some webcasts available at www.shrm.org under education. Some are offered for free and others are offered for a fee. If you are looking for preapproved vendor offerings check out the searchable list at www.hrci.org.

2014 Recertification Changes on the Way!

More details expected in an email blast from HRCI scheduled to be released later this month. For more information please go to www.hrci.org.
