Looking for a way to help advance the profession and your organization? Offer an internship!

We have eager students looking to get involved with HR, help further the field, and gain valuable experience in the HR community. SHRM Foundation Fundraiser

Mobile SHRM Members – The Foundation Committee is beginning its annual solicitation efforts for items to be auctioned during our Silent Auction to be held during the Gulf Coast Human Resources Conference scheduled for November 3.  Please reach out to vendors and/or business you frequent and request their support by donating items that can be auctioned during the event.  Please contact Paula Lindsey (auction@mobileshrm.org) or Adrienne Freeman (foundation@mobileshrm.org) for additional information.   Auction proceeds benefits the SHRM Foundation which provides educational resources for HR Professionals.

AACE Conference in Gulf Shores

The Alabama Association of Colleges and Employers (AACE) will be holding their annual conference in Gulf Shores, from July 19-21. 

Both employers and career services professionals will be attending. The primary objective of the organization is to open the talent pipeline from colleges to worksites. Employer partners are able to provide guidance and feedback on programs to those working higher education.

The old adage “No news is good news” Is not one that should be applied when thinking about how often we communicate with our front-line managers.  As HR Professionals, we should always remain mindful that managers are faced with people-related challenges on a daily basis. Directives on how managers address those challenges should come from HR, which will help to minimize risks to the organization.

If your managers have monthly team meetings, consider attending and share reminders or policy updates. If your managers don’t have scheduled meetings, consider sending a monthly email or developing a newsletter. Keeping proper processes top-of-mind can form good habits with managers, as well as, demonstrate the resources and support that HR provides.

Diversity observances for July include:

Key July observances include:

  • July 18: Nelson Mandela International Day, launched in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s birthday on July 18, 2009 via unanimous decision of the UN General Assembly
  • July 26: Disability Independence Day, which marks the anniversary of the 1990 signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
July 30: International Day of Friendship was proclaimed in 2011 by the UN General Assembly with the idea that friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between communities.
