2011 Meeting Sponsorships!

Would you like to have an opportunity to market your company’s products or services to a captive audience of HR professionals?

Sponsor a Mobile Society for Human Resource Management chapter meeting and you’ll have an exclusive opportunity to do just that! For only $400, sponsors may have an exhibit near the check-in table, place literature on each table, and have an opportunity to speak briefly about their companies during the meeting agenda. What could be better than that?

Limited opportunities are available, as there can be only one sponsor for each regular meeting.
Contact Tom Woodford at pres-elect@mshrm.org or 251-378-2211 to reserve your month!

HR Internships

Students majoring in HR would like to complete internships this summer and fall. Students must work approximately 150 hours for course credit. Fewer hours are possible without course credit. IRS regulations discourage the use of unpaid internships.

Pay ranges from minimum wage to $10 per hour. If your company needs an intern, please contact Dr. Marjorie Icenogle, micenogle@usouthal.edu (251-508-6491)

Input Needed! Certification Preparation:

The Mobile SHRM Chapter plans to continue offering PHR and SPHR certification preparation courses in conjunction with MTI once per year. We’re trying to decide if fall or winter is the best time to schedule the next session, so we need input from you. If you are considering enrolling in the certification preparation course, please contact Mary White (president@mobileshrm.org) regarding your preference. You don’t have to commit to attending now; we’re just trying to get a sense of the preferences of those who are interested.

It’s also important to be aware that HRCI is changing the body of knowledge starting in January. A fall session would be based on the current body of knowledge, while a January session will be based on the revisions. Information about what will be different is not yet available, but there are likely to be significant additions to the content included within the scope of the exam. The current class price is $835 including books. The material prices may go up in January, so tuition for a winter session may have to be higher than a fall session.

Note that a fall session would begin in September and end at the beginning of December, in time for candidates to sit for the exam in the December/January testing window. A winter session would begin in January and run through early May, ending in time for candidates to sit for the exam in the May/June testing window.

Special Event

Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services, EEOC, OFCCP and the ABLE Network are sponsoring a free lunch and learn focused on disability-related federal mandates and other related topics on May 26 from 9:30 am – 3 pm. Seating is limited and advance registration is required.

Contact Lorinda Day at lorinda.day@rehab.alabama.gov or 251-479-8611 for more information or to register.
