Presidents Desk

I
hope that each of you and your families had
a very Hoppy Easter and are enjoying the
wonderful Spring weather that has finally
arrived on the beautiful Gulf Coast. I am
personally happy to be able to have liver
and brussel sprout options once again, which
I had generously sacrificed for the entire
Lenten season.

Our monthly meeting is this Friday and will feature a
very important Legal Update and our annual State of the
Chapter Report. Please RSVP by Tuesday, April 6, 2010
online at our website or by e-mailing Cindy Giddens at cgiddens@soearth.com.
Don’t forget, you now have the added optional
convenience to pay in advance by credit card and
get to the fried chicken even faster! You can still
pay at the door if you prefer.

We are #10!!! I know that
does not sound very impressive, but it is actually
very much so. Out of all the SHRM Chapters in the
nation, we are right behind cities like Dallas, New
York and Tampa in terms of our 2009 SHRM Foundation
donations. This is due to your generosity and the
hard work of Harold Williamson and his helpers. Will
we be #1 in 2010???

As I mentioned to you in my first
letter, I sincerely want to hear from you as to how
we can continue to improve the chapter and establish
more value added membership (VAM!). You will be receiving
a survey from the chapter in a couple of weeks asking
for your honest feedback in a number of areas. HR
people are not shy and I certainly expect you to
be expressive and honest in your responses, but please
reply. I promise we strongly value your ideas and
will listen to you. Help us continue to move this
Chapter forward.

Mobile
SHRM’s Kickin’ it up a notch!
BAM!!!

We have some great
members and along with that come notable achievements!
The MSHRM is pleased to present the spotlight member
of the month for April.

Angie Bedgood

Angel
Persson of Aker Solutions, was a recent honor
roll winner for February 2010’s Better
Homes and Gardens Prize Tested Recipe Contest.
She won with her Caprese Grits recipe. Get
ready to salivate: this tasty dish is mozzarella
cheese grits with basil pesto served over tomatoes.

Persson, who grows her own
vegetables and fruits, was excited about winning.
She also has won an Alabama Living magazine contest
with her Crawfish and Andouille Cornbread Dressing.

With over 100 cookbooks,
Persson tries at least two new recipes a week and
also gives Pampered Chef presentations. She cites
Julia Child as an inspiration and also enjoys Alice
Waters and Martha Stewart. Waters and Stewart also
use organic ingredients and foods that are local
and in season as Persson tries to do.

As you can see, cooking
is a passion for Persson. She, family and friends
even have a second Sunday supper club in which they
share their meals and she also contributes to her
employer’s monthly potluck.

In regards to people
eating well, she says “getting
out of the fast food habit and taking the time
to prepare a healthful, wholesome meal at home
with your family. I think that’s one of the
best things in the world.”

Society for Human Resource Management chapter meeting and you’ll
have an exclusive opportunity to do just that! For only $400, sponsors
may have an exhibit near the check-in table, place literature on each
table, and have an opportunity to speak briefly about their companies
during the meeting agenda. What could be better than that? Limited
opportunities are available, as there can be only one sponsor for each
regular meeting.
